Pulmonary metastasectomy in children and adolescents: a narrative review

Paolo Scanagatta, Luigi Rolli

Abstract

Performing a pulmonary metastasectomy in the pediatric/adolescent population has become a standard procedure in thoracic oncology for some types of solid tumors. After a careful evaluation conducted by a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, expert pediatric oncologists and radiologists determined that only patients with primary-tumor control, and no other metastatic site with the possibility to perform a complete resection should be scheduled for a surgical intervention. In this article, we summarize the general indications, surgical techniques and technical tips of a pediatric pulmonary metastasectomy.
