Prof. Ng went to England in 1974 to receive his education and he graduated from The University, Dundee with distinction in Paediatrics in 1982. He joined the Medical College of St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, University of London as Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant Neonatologist in 1991. Prof. Ng returned to Hong Kong in 1993 and was recruited by The Chinese University of Hong Kong, where he subsequently appointed as the Professor of Pediatrics and Chairman of the Department. He was also the Past President of The Hong Kong Neonatal Society (2013-2015), The Hong Kong College of Paediatricians (2009-2012) and The Hong Kong Paediatric Society (2004-2006). He received the ‘Honorary Life Member’ award from The Hong Kong Paediatric Society in 2009 and the ‘Outstanding Asian Paediatricians Award, 2012’ by the Asian Pacific Pediatric Association (APPA) in 2012. As a world renowned neonatologist, he has published over 300 articles in international peer-reviewed journals, and is a member of the editorial board for Neonatology, Seminars in Fetal and Neonatal Medicine, and other Paediatric journals in Mainland China. He has written 6 book chapters and edited one book. His research interest, includes biomarkers of neonatal sepsis and NEC, the development and function of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, and the use corticosteroids and prokinetics in preterm infants. Prof. Ng received many competitive grants, both locally and internationally, and donations for his neonatal research. He firmly believes that advances in neonatology can only be achieved through properly conducted basic science research and clinical trials.
