Dr. Paul Graham Fisher is Professor of Neurology, Pediatrics, and by courtesy, Neurosurgery and Human Biology; the Beirne Family Professor of Pediatric Neuro-Oncology; the Bing Director of the Program in Human Biology; the Dunlevie Family University Fellow in Undergraduate Education; and Co-Director of the Center for Brain and Behavior at Stanford University and Lucile Salter Packard Children’s Hospital.
Following his BA, with Distinction in Human Biology from Stanford University and then his MD at UCSF, Dr. Fisher completed residencies in pediatrics and neurology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and then a fellowship in neuro-oncology at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Johns Hopkins. After starting out on the faculty at Hopkins, in 1997 Dr. Fisher was recruited back to Palo Alto, where he started the pediatric neuro-oncology program at Stanford University. That childhood brain tumor program is now one of the largest, comprehensive childhood brain tumor centers for research and care in the Western United States. His clinical work and research focus on childhood brain tumors, and his particular interests are the use of epidemiologic methods to investigate the etiology of brain tumors and other childhood cancers, as well as application of new therapies for brain tumors. He has authored over 200 scholarly publications on these and other neurology topics. Dr. Fisher is a co-investigator in the National Cancer Institute’s Pediatric Brain Tumor Consortium and National Institutes of Health’s Undiagnosed Diseases Network.
Dr. Fisher is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, for which he serves ex officio membership chair on the Executive Committee of the Section on Neurology. He is an Associate Editor for The Journal of Pediatrics, and serves on the editorial boards of Journal of Clinical Oncology and Journal of Neuro-Oncology. He is also an active member of the Child Neurology Society, Professors of Child Neurology, American Society of Clinical Oncology, Society for Neuro-Oncology, Children’s Oncology Group, Brain Tumor Epidemiology Consortium, and other professional associations.
